Also designed as a gift book with special graphics and numerous color images, this book started as Chapter 3 of Repurposing Scars. Now it is a stand-alone book with added content, images, and text. Buy one for your pastor, chaplain, graduate student, or other minister or caregiver!
This book was a dozen years in the making, starting with my human research at Harris County Jail in Houston (2009–2012) for my doctoral dissertation. This is a "one-stop shop" for caregivers dealing with emotional and psychological damage. I coined the term "scar theology" based on Jesus' surviving scars at his resurrection.
This was my first book, with the first edition coming out in 2010, to be updated with a new cover and enhanced content in 2022. This book explores some of the many images of Christ in Scripture, starting with the famous "Carpenter" image, telling the story of my first encounter in the very scary "Carpenter's Shop"!
This is the Student Workbook for my Family Systems curriculum. Currently, all classes have been studio recorded (see the "Videos" page). The videos are intended for both students and their families to watch, and then follow the workbook that has more detail. By involving both inmates and their family members, they can study, learn, grow, and heal together!
This is my latest book (2025) that continues the theme of addressing various aspects of emotional scars. Designed as a gift book with a glossy cover and color images throughout, this book was inspired by a poem that used the phrase "scar light." Once scarred folks encounter the light of Christ, they become light bearers in a dark world. They realize that the Light of the World infuses every scar with light and purpose!
